What glass is used for kitchen splashbacks?

All our kitchen splashbacks are made from toughened safety glass, manufactured to BS EN 12150. Toughened glass is heat resistant and significantly stronger than standard glass — essential for behind-hob applications.

Can glass splashbacks be any colour?

Yes. We can match any RAL or Farrow & Ball colour. The colour is applied to the back of the glass, so the front surface remains smooth and easy to clean.

Can socket cutouts be made in a glass splashback?

Yes. Cutouts for plug sockets, switches, and extractor fans are precision cut before toughening. Once a panel is toughened, no further cutting can be done — so all cutouts must be specified before manufacture.

How are glass splashbacks fixed to the wall?

Glass splashbacks are fixed using a clear silicone adhesive applied to the back of the panel. The wall surface must be clean, flat, and fully dry before installation. Silicone also provides a flexible bond that accommodates minor movement.

How do I clean a glass splashback?

Glass splashbacks are one of the easiest kitchen surfaces to clean. A damp cloth or standard glass cleaner is all that is needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads which can scratch the surface.

Glass Specification

Glass Thickness

Kitchen and bathroom splashbacks are typically supplied in 6mm toughened glass. Larger panels or areas requiring additional rigidity can be specified in 8mm or 10mm.

Glass Type

All splashbacks are supplied in toughened (tempered) safety glass. Toughened glass is heat resistant, impact resistant, and the correct specification for hob installations. Cutouts for sockets or switches must be specified at the time of ordering — they cannot be added to toughened glass after manufacture.

Edge Polishing

Exposed edges are machine polished to a smooth, safe finish. Pencil, flat, or bevelled edge profiles available depending on your preference.

Fixing Method

Splashbacks are bonded directly to the wall with a colour-matched silicone sealant — a clean, secure fixing with no visible fixings or brackets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — toughened glass is heat resistant and safe for use behind gas hobs, provided it is installed with a sufficient gap (typically 65mm minimum) between the glass and the nearest burner, as specified by the hob manufacturer. We will advise on the correct installation for your specific hob.

Glass splashbacks are extremely easy to clean. A soft cloth with a mild glass cleaner or soapy water is all that is needed. Unlike tiles, there are no joints or grout lines to deal with — grease and steam wipe away cleanly from the smooth glass surface.

Yes. We can cut precise rectangular or circular holes in glass splashbacks to accommodate plug sockets, light switches, and other fittings. These must be planned at the time of ordering as holes cannot be added to toughened glass after manufacture.

Yes. Painted (ColourBack) glass splashbacks are available in any RAL or BS colour. You can match your kitchen cabinets, your wall paint, or choose a completely contrasting statement colour. We can also colour-match from a paint tin or physical sample.
