Four Systems. One Team. Cut to Your Exact Measurements.

Glass balustrades are one of the few home improvements that genuinely change the character of a space — open up a garden terrace, flood a hallway with light, transform a staircase from a functional necessity into an architectural feature. The system you choose depends on your setting, substrate, budget, and how much of the view you want to preserve. We supply and install four distinct systems, each with different fixing methods, aesthetics, and price points, and we'll recommend the right one for your specific situation at survey stage.

We're based in Mansfield and install within a 50-mile radius — Nottingham, Sheffield, Derby, Chesterfield, Lincoln, and everywhere in between. Supply-only orders go nationwide. All installations are carried out by our own team, every quote is written and fixed-price, and we back it all with a price match guarantee.

Frameless Channel Balustrades

The cleanest and most contemporary option. Toughened or laminated glass panels are secured in a continuous aluminium base channel — no visible posts, no clamps, nothing to interrupt the view. Perfect for garden terraces, patios, decking, and balconies where you want maximum transparency.

  • No visible fixings or posts
  • Toughened or laminated glass panels
  • Ideal for external garden and terrace use
  • Available with or without handrail
  • Straight, L-shape, and U-shape configurations

Spigot Frameless Balustrades

Glass panels are secured on minimalist stainless steel spigots fixed to the deck or floor surface. The spigot system is particularly popular on timber and porcelain decking where drainage underneath the glass is important — the elevated fixing point keeps water flow clear.

  • Stainless steel spigot fixings
  • Excellent drainage for decking applications
  • Frameless, open aesthetic
  • Available with or without handrail
  • Top or side-fix spigot options

Post & Handrail Systems

Toughened glass panels infilled between stainless steel posts with a matching handrail above. A classic and highly versatile system — strong, safe, and stylish — that works equally well on staircases, balconies, decking, and commercial settings. Posts and handrails are available in brushed or polished stainless steel, or powder coated to colour.

  • Stainless steel posts and handrail
  • Toughened glass infill panels
  • Brushed, polished, or powder-coated finish
  • Suitable for staircases, balconies, and decking
  • Commercial rated options available

Semi-Frameless Post Balustrades

A balance between the full-frameless look and the structural definition of a post-and-rail system. Supporting posts are present but kept slimmer and more discreet — creating an open, contemporary appearance without the expense of a fully frameless installation. A popular choice where budget and aesthetics need to be balanced.

  • Slim, discreet post profile
  • Open, airy appearance
  • Cost-effective alternative to full frameless
  • Available in multiple finishes
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use

Common Glass Balustrade Shapes

All four systems above are available in straight, L-shape, and U-shape configurations — cut and manufactured to your exact measurements.

Straight glass balustrade run

Straight

The most common configuration — a single straight run. Competitive pricing and a fast turnaround make this the most popular choice for decking and patio edges.

U-shaped glass balustrade

U-Shape

Wraps around three sides of a decking area or raised platform. Stylish, contemporary, and ideal for spaces that need depth and dimensionality in the design.

L-shaped glass balustrade

L-Shape

Covers two adjoining sides with a neat mitred or posted corner. Ideal for balconies, garden walls, and L-shaped staircases — visually striking and highly practical.

Which Glass Balustrade System Is Right for Your Project?

The four systems above aren't just aesthetic choices — each one has different structural requirements, fixing methods, and suitability for different substrates. Here's how to think about which one fits your situation:

You want no visible fixings at all

Frameless channel is the right system. Glass sits in a continuous floor channel — no posts, no clamps. Works on flat concrete, screed, and timber substrates. Not suitable where drainage underneath the glass is important.

You have decking or a tiled patio

Spigot frameless works better here. The elevated spigot fixing point means water drains freely under the glass. Also better on composite and porcelain decking where drilling into the surface (rather than beneath it) isn't ideal.

You want the most cost-effective option

Post and handrail is typically the most affordable system per metre. Toughened glass infill between stainless steel posts with a top handrail — robust, versatile, and suitable for almost any substrate. Also the most straightforward to extend or modify later.

You want a modern look without the full frameless price

Semi-frameless posts (posts without a handrail) sit between the full frameless look and a traditional post-and-rail. Slimmer post profiles, no top rail, and a cleaner aesthetic — at a lower cost than channel or spigot systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frameless systems (channel or spigot) have no visible posts — the glass is the structural element, fixed at the base only. Framed systems (post-and-rail or semi-frameless) use posts and a handrail to support the glass infill panels. Frameless systems deliver a cleaner, more modern look; framed systems are often more cost-effective and versatile across different applications.
Yes. All our balustrade systems are designed and installed to comply with UK Building Regulations and BS6180. We can provide test reports, fixing guidance, and compliance documentation where required for Building Control or planning purposes. Read our regulations guide →
Glass thickness is specified based on the system type, panel size, and application. Typical residential installations use 10mm toughened glass in framed systems, and 12–17.5mm laminated glass in frameless channel systems. We specify the correct thickness for every project as part of the design process.
Yes. We regularly install glass balustrades on timber, composite, and porcelain decking. Spigot systems are particularly popular on these surfaces as they can be fixed to the deck frame beneath and allow drainage to continue unimpeded.
A typical residential glass balustrade installation takes one to two days on site, depending on size and configuration. We arrange fitting dates to suit you and aim to cause minimal disruption.

Do You Need Privacy as Well as Protection?

A glass balustrade is designed to be transparent — but sometimes you need a section of your run to obscure the view rather than preserve it. A Juliet balcony that faces a road. A garden terrace that looks directly into a neighbouring window. A balcony side panel where the bedroom is exposed.

We can incorporate privacy glass panels into any balustrade installation — either satin sandblasted 10mm toughened glass with Ritec ClearShield coating, or laminated glass with a milk white EVA interlayer. Both options use the same fixing system as your clear glass, so the transition is seamless. We also supply and fit standalone privacy screens for gardens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces.
