Glass Juliet Balcony Costs & Pricing Guide
How much does a glass Juliet balcony cost? A practical UK guide to what affects the price — with an online cost estimator by style and opening width.
How Much Does a Glass Juliet Balcony Cost?
A glass Juliet balcony is a fixed safety barrier fitted flush to the building face across a door opening. It does not project outwards and provides no standing space — its job is to allow bifold, French, or sliding doors to open fully at height while preventing falls.
Cost is primarily driven by two things: the style of system and the width of the opening. A single-panel frameless Juliet balcony across a narrow French door opening is a very different job to a four-panel button-fixed system spanning a wide set of bifold doors. Glass thickness, fixing method, access conditions, and upper-floor considerations also affect the final price.

What Affects the Cost of a Glass Juliet Balcony?
Opening Width
The biggest single cost factor. A narrow French door opening (900–1200mm) may only need one glass panel. A wide bifold door opening (2400–4500mm) needs multiple panels to span the full width — more glass, more fixings, more installation time.
System Style
Frameless button-fixed systems cost more than framed or rail systems. The glass specification required for point-fixed frameless systems (typically 17.5mm or 21.5mm laminated) is heavier and more expensive than the glass used in framed or rail systems.
Glass Specification
Juliet balconies are classified as external guarding under BS6180 and must meet the barrier loading requirement. Wider openings and frameless systems require thicker laminated glass — 17.5mm for most installations, 21.5mm for spans over 2.4m or where building control requires it.
Fixing Method & Substrate
Button-fixed and framed systems fix to the structural fabric of the building — typically masonry or timber frame — above and below the door reveal. Fixing into brick or block is straightforward. Timber frame, render, or composite cladding may require additional consideration at survey.
Upper Floor Access
Ground floor or easily accessible first-floor work is straightforward. High-level installations — second floor or above — may require scaffolding or specialist access equipment. We assess access at survey and include any access costs in the quotation.
Powder Coating & Finish
Standard finishes are satin stainless steel, brushed aluminium, or mill finish. Powder coating metalwork to a RAL colour (to match window frames, render, or other elements) is available at an additional cost — typically £60–£120 for a Juliet balcony depending on size.
Juliet Balcony Styles — What Are the Options?
Frameless — Button / Standoff Fixed
The cleanest look. Laminated glass panels are drilled and fixed using stainless steel standoff buttons — no frame, no rail, just glass. Glass thickness is automatically specified by opening width: 17.5mm up to 1800mm, 21.5mm above. Maximum opening width: 3000mm. For wider openings, a Balconnette system is required.
Guide price: from £900 (single door). Wide openings to 3000mm: £1,350–£1,750+.
Aluminium Rail — Elegance
Slim vertical aluminium rails with laminated glass infill — the Elegance range. The rail profile is narrow and unobtrusive; when viewed face-on the system is mostly glass. Popular on new-build properties and can be powder coated to any RAL colour to match window frames or render. Handles openings up to 5000mm.
Guide price: from £700 (single door). Wide openings: £1,050–£1,750+.
Balconnette System
A system-engineered Balconnette Juliet balcony — the recommended solution for openings over 3000mm and for wide bifold or multi-door configurations. Horizontal rails and laminated glass infill in a complete engineered kit. Available in a range of finishes and can be powder coated. Handles any opening width.
Guide price: from £750 (single door). Wide multi-panel openings: £1,100–£1,900+.
Framed Stainless Steel
A structural stainless steel frame with 10mm toughened glass infill — the glass spec is fixed for this system type. Robust and durable; well suited to exposed elevations or where a more traditional barrier appearance is preferred. Available in satin or polished stainless steel. Maximum opening width: 2400mm.
Guide price: from £650 (single door). Up to 2400mm: £650–£950+.
