Steel, wood, and steel-and-wood spiral staircases for internal and external use — open tread, any RAL colour, 1250mm and 1500mm diameter. Supply and installation across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire.
A spiral staircase is the most compact way to connect two floor levels — the circular footprint takes up a fraction of the space a straight stair would need, without sacrificing structural integrity or visual impact. Whether you're connecting a loft conversion to the floor below, creating external access from the garden to a raised terrace, or adding a route up to a walk-on steel balcony, a spiral staircase can be the right answer.
We supply and install spiral staircases standalone or as part of a wider balcony or staircase project. All staircases are open-tread — no closed risers. Available in three material combinations, two diameters, two balustrade styles, and any RAL colour.
Spiral staircases are available in three distinct material combinations — each with a different character and suited to different settings.
Steel centre column, steel open treads, steel balustrade, steel handrail — everything powder-coated in your chosen RAL colour. The most durable option, particularly suited to external installations and commercial or semi-commercial settings where weather resistance and longevity take priority.
Steel centre column and structural frame with timber tread inserts — the most popular combination. The warmth of natural wood treads softens the industrial quality of the steel structure, making this a versatile choice that works well in both contemporary and more traditional interiors. Treads are typically beech, oak, or pine depending on the system specified.
Timber centre column, timber treads, and timber or painted wood balustrade — a fully wooden spiral staircase suited to traditional, rustic, or Scandinavian interiors. Available in natural timber finishes (oiled, lacquered, painted) to complement existing joinery. Best suited to internal, dry installations.
The same range covers both internal and external applications — the key difference is the material and coating specification.
All three material combinations are available for internal use. Steel-and-wood is the most popular internal option — the timber treads are comfortable underfoot and suit most domestic interiors. All-wood staircases are available for traditional settings. Internal staircases are subject to Building Regulations covering tread dimensions, headroom, guarding height, and handrail specification.
All-steel spiral staircases are the right choice for external installations — every external staircase is hot-dip galvanised before powder coating, giving two layers of corrosion protection. Whether powder-coated in a RAL colour or left in a galvanised finish, external steel staircases are built to last without ongoing maintenance. Popular for providing garden-level access to a raised terrace or walk-on steel balcony. Steel-and-wood can also work externally where the timber treads are a treated hardwood specification — ask us at quote stage.
Two balustrade styles are available across all our spiral staircase ranges — both provide compliant guarding and follow the helical line of the handrail, but they create very different visual characters.
Individual vertical spindles run from the tread to the underside of the handrail at regular intervals — a clean, traditional balustrade style that suits both steel and wood staircases. The vertical rhythm of the spindles is visually lighter than a solid rail system and pairs well with a wide range of interior styles.
Upright posts at intervals carry a continuous sweeping horizontal rail that follows the helical curve of the staircase below the handrail. This creates a more open, architectural look — less cluttered than individual spindles, with a stronger linear quality. Popular on contemporary all-steel installations and on external staircases where a bold visual character is wanted.
Both diameter options are available across all material combinations and balustrade styles. Landing treads are optional — useful where the staircase arrives at a mezzanine or balcony edge and a wider top step aids the transition.
The compact option — suitable for private internal and external use, and ideal where floor space is at a premium. Meets Building Regulations minimum diameter requirements for private staircases.
The wider, more comfortable option — a noticeably easier ascent and descent for everyday use, and the right choice for higher-footfall locations or where Building Regulations require a larger stair.
A landing tread is a wider platform tread at the top of the staircase — useful where the stair arrives at a balcony edge, mezzanine, or doorway and a generous top step makes the transition more comfortable and safer. Optional on all systems.
All spiral staircases in our range are open-tread — there are no closed riser options. Open treads give a lighter, more contemporary appearance, allow light to pass between floors, and are standard across both steel and wood systems. They are not suitable where young children under 5 will use the staircase unsupervised.
All steel components — the centre column, structural frame, treads (where all-steel), balustrade, and handrail — are powder-coated in your chosen RAL colour. Whether you want a clean RAL 9005 jet black, RAL 7016 anthracite, RAL 9010 pure white, or a bespoke shade to match existing metalwork or joinery, we can produce it.
Powder coating bonds under heat and produces a thick, chip-resistant finish that holds its colour in both internal and external conditions. We use a polyester specification as standard — suitable for external use. Matt, satin, and gloss finishes are all available.
A spiral staircase is one of the most practical ways to provide external access to a raised balcony or roof terrace — it takes up a fraction of the garden footprint that a conventional straight stair would need. We build and install bespoke walk-on steel balconies with composite or timber decking and glass balustrades, and can combine the balcony and spiral staircase into a single project.
